• Journey 2020-2021


    Ebong Alap, Kolkata and Point of View, Mumbai jointly organised the launch of a bilingual Desk Calendar on Digital Freedom on 7 January, 2020 at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata. This was followed by a solo performance by Satakshy Nandy entitled 'Meyder Khela'.

     

    Ebong Alap and Point View conducted a workshop on Online Safety on 11-12 January 2020 at Rotary Sadan, Kolkata.

     

     

     

    Launch of our new book 'Sahaj Alapey Ishkuley Gender' followed by a state level symposium on gender in school spaces at the conference hall of WBCPCR. 

     

     

     

    First in the series of Ubacho Travelling Poster Exhibition followed by an interactive session with college students at Ramkrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyapith, Dumdum.

     

     

     

     

    Second in the series of Ubacho Travelling Poster Exhibition at Kanaknagar SD Institution, Hingalguange, Sundarban followed by an interactive session and quiz with high school students.

     

     

     

    After supercyclone Amphan hit Bengal in May 2020, Ebong Alap team visited two parts of Gosaba, Sunderban, where we have worked for the last 11 years. We tried to reach mainly cyclone-affected single, widowed or elderly women--largely abandoned by their families--with clothes, medicine, masks, nutrition supplement, biscuits, milk powder and sanitary napkins on this relief visit.

     

     

     

     

    Ebong Alap team reached East Kolkata Wetlands in June 2020 after Amphan destroyed many hutments in the area. We helped rebuild a few of the houses that were destroyed in the supercyclone.

     

     

     

     

    Dry ration distribution to elderly women and men of Piyali in Canning in April 2020 and educational support to adolescent students of the same area in June 2020.

     

     

     

    In July 2020, Ebong Alap reached Satjelia of Sunderbn to provide some relief to local elderly people and ASHA workers with solar lanterns cum mobile chargers.

     

    In August 2020, Ebong Alap distributed solar lanterns cum mobile chargers to high school students and ASHA workers of Mousuni island of Sunderban. This was done in collaboration with the group Shudhu Sunderban Charcha. 

     

    Ebong Alap reached ASHA workers of 7 Gram Panchayats of Habrablock in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal with solar lanterns cum mobile chargers in September 2020.

    As we try to negotiate the vicious second wave of the pandemic and are forced to put on hold most field work with communities of women and young people, we take this opportunity to share with you a few vignettes of our recent workshops with adolescents of Piyali in Canning, South 24 Parganas of West Bengal with whom we have been trying to do some work to ensure their right to education and overall well being. These workshops are huge learning experiences for us and the animated expressions on their faces motivate us greatly in these very bleak times.

    Dry Ration distribution in June 2021 to 200 families affected by the Yash cyclone organized in collaboration with Karanjali Balika Vidyalaya, South 24 Parganas and supported by Goonj.

    Distribution of health kits to 150 pregnant and lactating women of Piyali in Canning as well as community medical kits to all Asha workers in the Banshra Gram Panchayat of Piyali, generously supported by Goonj and organized by Ebong Alap in June 2021.

    It is a different kind of celebration of Independence at Pilai, Canning, South 24 Parganas. This year adolescents of Piali village organized a poster rally on 15th August, 2021. After several workshops and rehearsals, on the Independence Day, 2021 they carried the posters of female freedom fighters posters at one side and on the side they carried the posters made by them focusing issues related to the same area.

    After the first wave of Pandemic hit, we started working with the adolescents Piyali village, Canning, South 24 Parganas. It's been almost 1 and a half years since we are working with these bunch of adolescents. Now, the mothers of these adolescents have started joining us. Rakhi Utsav of this year is the time when we have been friends with them. Started from July, 2021 to September, 2021 the mothers of the group adolescents participated in several workshops conducted by us. We are joining our hand and trying to create a safe space of conversation.
